Are Gamblers Getting Younger?
Sadly this is not about gamblers finding the fountain of youth but a recent Annenberg survey that shoes a rise in the number of youngsters gambling online. Looks like gambling online has taken to the youth because according to the survey there has been a steady rise in the number of college students who are gambling online, especially on online casino blackjack.
The last survey was done in the year 2008 and since then the figures have risen from 4.4% to 16%. You could call that a pretty big number of college kids gambling online. There also seems to be an increase in the number of school aged males who have taken to online gambling. But what’s even more interesting is the number of high school aged females who have taken to gambling. In 2008 the figures were 9.5% and these kids stated they bet on sports on a monthly basis. Can you guess what the survey says this time? 22%. That is quite a change in gambling trends.
One thing that a lot of parents need to know that underage gambling is not a great idea. So be aware of what your kids are up to on their computers. When they are of the legal age they can probably venture into the world of gambling, but till then if you find any funny behavior from your kids like trying to double down when he plays Go Fish or buying an iPad with ‘his own’ money then it could be that he has already got his hands into gambling.
